Jim Beam Black Label ages for eight years rather than four years. This spirit is 43 percent alcohol per volume and 86 proof. The same distillation process is used as with Jim Beam White, so the flavor change is more of an enhancement rather than a difference. The extended aging process results in a more refined flavor than Jim Beam White.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Johnnie Walker Blue is the most sought-after bottling in the range, as well as being the most famous top-end blended whisky going. The range begins with Red Label, moving on to Johnnie Walker Black Label, while the Green Label is a blended malt (formerly known as a 'vatted' malt), with whiskies predominantly from Caol Ila, Cragganmore, Linkwood and Talisker distilleries.

Still a tiny bit blendy, but much better than Walker’s 12 year Black Label. The Double has a bit more of the Talisker spice in the finish as well. Given the choice for ten bucks more, I would always choose Double Black over the Black Label 12.

Johnnie Walker Double Black is inspired by the iconic flavors of Johnnie Walker Black Label and turns them up to create a Scotch blend of unprecedented intensity. Strongly influenced by powerful and peaty West Coast and Islay Single Malts, Johnnie Walker Double Black is best enjoyed with water to unlock its complex layers of smouldering spice and smoke.

You know from the label that the JW Black is a 12-year old whisky. So both the grain and malt whiskies have all been aged to a minimum of 12 years, and you think that must be a good thing. Indeed it is. But the standard Glenfiddich is also a 12-year old whisky, matured in top-quality oak casks and sold at about the same price as JW Black.
